Shiatsu-Anma for Insomnia

Insomnia is a sleep disorder characterized by difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or experiencing non-restorative sleep despite adequate opportunity for sleep. It can lead to daytime fatigue, irritability, and difficulty concentrating. Insomnia can be acute (short-term) or chronic (long-term), and it may be caused by various factors such as stress, anxiety, depression, medical conditions, medications, or poor sleep habits. Traditional treatment options include improving sleep hygiene, cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), and sometimes medications under medical supervision.

Common reasons I have seen throughout my career as causes for insomnia are: going to sleep with unrelaxed mind (worry, stress, too many responsibilities etc.), environmental factors such as working up late, strong lights prior to sleep, eating spicy/heavy foods before sleeping and more. Insomnia involves to a great deal our Pineal gland, a hormonal gland located behind our brain-stem and responsible for managing our biological rhythm, including secretion of Melatonin, the sleeping hormone. When the pineal gland's functioning is unnaturally compromised, it tends to affect it's biological rhythm and disturbs the natural adaptation of our body to daily changes, such as rest and healing vs activity, lowers our energy production, cognitive strength, immunity and more.

Shiatsu-Anma treatments can be a very effective form of Natural healing modality for Insomnia. Throughout my career I've helped clients with insomnia conditions many times. I particularly recall one case, a few years ago, of a young man in his 30s that came to me with chronic fatigue syndrome, accompanied by chronic Insomnia, migraines, slight over weight and stressful lifestyle (office worker, computer programmer). After the first session he had severe regression, as if he released much toxicity. The second session was similar but much milder. By the third session he reported some improvement in energy and sleeping quality. Still had some migraines, but a few more session made a significant improvement in sleeping, energy level and migraines. It was very successful and my client also benefited from learning about understanding his problem and improving his lifestyle so to prevent those symptoms from worsening again.

Self scalp Shiatsu-Anma and massage can be an amazing tool for battling Insomnia and effectively alleviating casual onsets. Simply rub and poke your head with your finger tips for 2-3 minutes, focusing on any sore points until they change sensitivity, placing special focus on your temporal region, "Third eye" and the occipital base. I remember years ago practicing it on myself, while having a flu fever and not being able to sleep (had no strength to reach my Meds box while in bed, so I started massaging my own head). Within only a few minutes I fell asleep like a baby and in the next morning was amazed how effective it was. In my treatments I educate my clients to self practice Shiatsu-Anma effectively, as part of a complete therapy.

Typical points in treating Insomnia usually include some head points like "Taiyang", "Baihui" (GV20) and "Fengchi" (GB20), and more specific points according to the individual case. For better results it is always recommended to consult a qualified Shiatsu-Anma therapist.

What Is KI (Qi) Energy

“Ki” energy (Chi “Qi”) is a fundamental concept in many traditional Asian martial arts, philosophy and traditional medicine. It basically refers to the cosmic life energy that flows through all matter in the universe and unites all living things, just like air, and provides life. KI flows endlessly throughout the universe, throughout the cosmic cycle (TAO) dynamically shifting in between 2 poles: YIN & YANG. Those 2 poles are like complementary phases of KI energy and can be considered like High & low, Day & Night, Activity & Rest, Masculinity and Femineity etc. In order to fully merge with the KI we must be aware of it and understand its nature! The capability of allowing KI to run through us naturally and with no interruptions is considered the core manifestation of health in Oriental medicine. A more modern approach to understanding “KI” may be the use of “ Aerobic energy ” compared to “ Anaerobic energy ” in our body. The Aerobic energy in a protein-based energy pro...
