Many people try Shiatsu-Anma treatment for the first time, not really knowing what it is or how it works, and most of all, how does it help afterwards. A lot of people come in unprepared, or with very compromised health conditions, making the treatments more complicated, but not necessarily ineffective. Many time people feel pain or other types of uncomfortable sensations during a session or after, not knowing it is actually a positive change and succeeded by an improvement.
So I'd like o clarify the matter here , have you all better understand it, cooperate and, of course, benefit from it.
Shiatsu-Anma, traditional Japanese Acupressure bodywork therapy, has been in service of populations all over the word for a very long time. It has been tremendously helpful and had proven itself to be effective in promoting natural health beyond any doubt, practically and scientifically.
The goal in Shiatsu-Anma, as it helps to restore natural physiology in our body, is to release tensions and blockages that disturb this natural ability. In that way, the therapist responsibility is to located local and remote Acupoints and areas that are abnormally sensitive and related to the targeted treatment goal, directly or indirectly. Those strategic points or areas may feel abnormally tender, sore, or sensitive initially, but with proper relaxed and center-breathing response from the recipient side, it always makes the pressure comfortable and tolerated, until we witness an improvement. Of course, as in many times, many Acupoints or areas are sensitive for so long, that it takes more than a few seconds or minutes to actually balance them to a level of normality. In such case, it is important to be consistent in applying the accurate technique until results occur.
Shiatsu and Anma are applied using NO force at all, just body-weight, a fact that makes them the most safe and accurate bodywork modalities known to me. Nevertheless, it is the goal of Shiatsu-Anma to "touch the pain", in order to allow it to transform and balance. The recipient's breathing respond will help it transform and eventually become "normally sensitive", affecting the body's functioning and health, accordingly.
A typical example to offer will be a sore body area (e.g. the back or shoulders) that is being gently pressed, in order to relax the sympathetic nerves that over-guard it, until it metabolizes and the pain is relieved. Another example may be pressing a tender Acupoint (like LV3, located on the top of the foot, between the 1st and the 2nd toes), and softly rotating it, so to relief remotely related symptoms such as menstrual pain, abdominal pain etc. Such stimulation typically is held for about 2-3 minutes until the point is not tender much. In chronic cases, such technique should be applied repeatedly for a period of time to sustain the effect.
So in conclusion, Shiatsu-Anma DOES NOT have to hurt if there is no pain, but clinically should address sensitive points & areas so to touch the pain (or sensitivity) and help transform it to normality. In this manner, a great impact is usually felt after the session!
I am welcoming you to try Shiatsu-Anma therapy and notice your energy and health are improved!
